Spray Fish

Spray Fish (てっぽーうお, Teppōuo^?) is an enemy which appears in the Yoshi platformers. It made its first appearance in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Behavior[]

A Spray Fish is a purple fish that attacks by spraying a jet of water diagonally at or near a Yoshi for a few seconds. Although the water does not damage a Yoshi, he cannot bypass it, and there is the risk of the jet of water pushing him and Baby Mario into an enemy or an obstacle. A Yoshi can pass a jet of water by either waiting for a brief moment in which the Spray Fish stops spitting out water or by tossing an egg at the Spray Fish to forcefully stop it from spitting out water prematurely. A Spray Fish cannot be defeated.

Spray Fish has a counterpart found in lava, Hot Lips, which has nearly the same attack pattern except it spits out lava at a Yoshi.
