Super Mario Mario Party

Spiny Eggs (パイポ, Paipo, also called Spiny's Eggs) are small, red balls covered in spikes. A Spiny Egg is a Spiny curled into a ball, not an egg as the title would imply. Spiny Eggs are generally thrown by Lakitus, and they become a Spiny upon landing onto the ground. Spiny Eggs first appear in Super Mario Bros..

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Bros.[]

Spiny Eggs, let alone Spinies in general, only appear in levels with Lakitu. All of them first appear in World 4-1, and would go on to appear in only two other levels, World 6-1 and World 8-2.

Like Spinies, Mario or Luigi can defeat a Spiny Egg by either throwing fireballs at one while in their Fire form or by touching it while under the invincibility effects of a Starman. Defeating a Spiny Egg earns the player 200 points.

Super Mario Bros. 3[]

Spiny Eggs are generally the same as in Super Mario Bros., but now yield 100 points upon defeat. Green Spiny Eggs are also introduced, and they never hatch and do little else except roll around on the ground.

Super Mario World[]
