Spike balls are giant green seeds with yellow spikes in Super Mario 3D World and its Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. They first appear in Clear Pipe Cruise. They are in the interior of Clear Pipes, blocking parts of them. Some Green Stars are among spike balls; if the player hits a spike ball, they not only take damage but are also ejected backwards in the pipe, so its destruction is necessary to pass. They can be destroyed by a fireball from Fire Mario, a baseball, Invincible Mario, or White Tanooki Mario.

Spike balls reappear in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and its Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS ports using the same appearance as from Super Mario 3D World and acting in the same way. They are usually seen in levels with Clear Pipes and block the way of the player, such as Clear Pipe Puzzleplex. They can be destroyed by using the Super Pickax power-up.
