Mario Party

Spike-n-Span is a 1-vs-Rivals minigame in Mario Party 9.

Opening[]

After a Spiked Ball lands on the floor, surprising the rivals, it rolls toward the leftmost rival, who jumps over the Spiked Ball to dodge it.

Gameplay[]

Spiked Ball Tricks

A Spiked Ball bouncing on the bridge

The solo character has to jump at the floor from below to try and maneuver the Spiked Balls into hitting the rivals. Arrows indicate the landing spot of a Spiked Ball but not where it goes after landing. Hitting the floor underneath a Spiked Ball causes it to bounce, and depending on the angle, this may cause the Spiked Ball to also change direction. If the floor is hit under a rival, they stumble. If a Spiked Ball goes offscreen, a different one falls a few seconds later. If a rival touches a Spiked Ball, they are eliminated. If every rival is eliminated within the 30-second time limit, the solo character wins, but if at least one rival remains when time is up, the rivals win.

Controls[]

The minigame requires the Wii Remote to be held sideways. This is one of the 1-vs-Rivals minigames in which the controls are the same for both the solo and rival sides.

  • +Control Pad: Move character
  • Two Button: Jump
