Mario Party

A Special Event Space is a type of space in Mario Party: Island Tour and Mario Party 10.

Description[]

When a character passes onto a Special Event Space, they are forced to stop, regardless of how many moves are remaining, and participate in a certain event. After clearing the event, the character can continue progressing. Special Event Spaces replace the Captain Event Spaces from Mario Party 9, which function the same.

Here, it is named Dead-End Space (spelled Dead End Space in European and Australian releases). A Dead-End Space appears in three boards—Perilous Palace Path, Shy Guy's Shuffle City, and Bowser's Peculiar Peak—all having it as the very last space.

In Perilous Palace Path, when a character lands onto the Dead-End Space, they must face a Whomp. With the Dice Block, the character must roll a 6 to defeat the Whomp and win the game. Even if a lower number is rolled, the Whomp still takes damage, specifically losing the same number of health segments as the number on the Dice Block. The minimum roll needed to defeat Whomp depends on how many health segments it has left. If a character does not roll a high enough number, Whomp squishes them, and they try again on their next turn.

In Shy Guy's Shuffle City, when landing onto the Dead-End Space, the player must choose between eight cards, two of which allow them to win while the other six, labeled, "Sorry!," make them go back three spaces. The cards are randomized each time the board is played, and if a character picked an incorrect card last time, the number of cards to choose from to win is lowered.

In Bowser's Peculiar Peak, landing on the Dead-End Space involves the character encountering Bowser in the Bowser Challenge. The character has to roll a Dice Block. If the character rolls either a 1, 2, or a 3, Bowser smacks out the corresponding number of platforms that the character is standing on, but if the character rolls either a 4, 5, 6, or a lower number if it they have rolled the Dice Block previously, Bowser hammers out the character, resulting in eliminating them from the board and putting them in fourth place.

Mario Party 10[]

There is only one Special Event Space, located in Chaos Castle, where it replaces the normal Homestretch! event and takes the character to the third segment of the board.
