The Snack Orb, originally known as the Bone Capsule and Bones Capsule,[1] is an Orb that first appears in Mario Party 5. It serves to protect the player from Chain Chomp.
In Mario Party 5, the Bone Capsule cannot be used by the player normally, with the only available option being to throw it away. If a player with a Snack Orb is attacked by a Chain Chomp from an opponent's use of a Chain Chomp Capsule, the Bone Capsule is automatically used, making the player throw a bone off the side. Chain Chomp goes after the bone instead of attacking, negating the Chain Chomp Capsule regardless of if its user was stealing Coins or Stars.
In Mario Party 6, it is renamed the Snack Orb. It is only found on Snowflake Lake, a board where players can ride Chain Chomps across spaces of the board to steal Stars from opponents they encounter. Once activated, the user throws a bone into the air, causing the opponent's Chain Chomp to jump over the user's space to catch it and then continue moving.
In Mario Party 7, the Snack Orb is only found on Pyramid Park, which has similar mechanics to Snowflake Lake. The Orb's effect is retooled. The player now has to use it on themselves before they are attacked by Chain Chomp, which also means the item can no longer be discarded. After using a Snack Orb, the player is protected for three turns or until a Chain Chomp attacks, the latter of which prompts the automatic bone throw. Since turns count down after the player moves through a Dice Block but opponents can only use Chain Chomps between the turns of the user, while the effect of the Snack Orb mechanically lasts for three turns in practice it only protects the player from opponents' attacks for two of their turn cycles.
