A Smiley Flower, sometimes named Flower, is one of the main items within the Yoshi platforming games, having first appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. They have made a few cameo appearances in the Mario Kart series and the Super Smash Bros. series.
In the Yoshi franchise[]
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island[]
Here, they are named Special Flowers, and there are five of them to collect in each level. Once each Special Flower is obtained in a level, the Yoshi earns a 1 up. The main purpose of a Smiley Flower is to contribute to the completion score of a level, with each Special Flower being worth 10 points, making for a total of 50; for a complete score, a Yoshi has to also collect thirty Stars and twenty Red Coins, all worth a point each, making for the other fifty points.
Each Special Flower is added to the GOAL! Ring, which spins around as a roulette whenever a Yoshi jumps through one, and if the GOAL! Ring lands on a Smiley Flower, the Yoshi can continue to a Bonus Challenge.
Yoshi's Island DS[]
Smiley Flowers have the same purpose as in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
