The Sling Pod Galaxy is a galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy. It does not have any large planets and is almost completely made up of Sling Pods and obstacles. Due to its nature as a Hungry Luma Galaxy, this Galaxy has no icon. Mario can access this by feeding the Hungry Luma that appears outside of the Fountain 400 Star Bits, though he can only do so with at least nine Power Stars, including the one from the Space Junk Galaxy's third mission, Tarantox's Tangled Web. To make his way to the Power Star, Mario must climb onto one of the Sling Pods, then launch himself in the direction of the next pod. The obstacles are floating mines that will hurt Mario upon impact, or cause him to fall into a Black Hole. This galaxy can only be traversed by utilizing the Sling Pods and Pull Stars. In this stage, Mario can easily die from colliding into a mine or being flung in the wrong direction. However, Mario can collect many Star Bits in this galaxy alone.

Missions[]

A Very Sticky Situation[]

Mario must climb onto one of the Sling Pods, then launch himself in the direction of the next pod to make his way. The obstacles are floating mines that will hurt Mario upon collision, or cause him to fall into a black hole. In this stage, Mario can easily lose a life by from colliding into a mine or being flung in the wrong direction. The Power Star is at the very end of the galaxy.

Planets[]

There is only one true planet in this Galaxy, and that is the Starting Planet.

Starting Planet[]

This is the only walkable planet that is featured. Mario starts on a thin walkway. It has only a single sling pod that he must use to get to the next area.

Cannon Area[]

This area is rather simple. Mario has to use the sling pods to make his way to the next area. Getting hit by a cannon results in death. The sling pods are quite useful due to their range.

Mine Area[]

This area is a bit difficult. Mario has to use the Pull Star path to make his way to the next area. This is the only area without sling pods.

Firebar Area[]

This area is the hardest. Mario must time his launch lest the Fire Bars knock him into the Black Hole at the centre.

Nomenclature[]

The Sling Pod Galaxy's name in the Japanese version, Kokūn Asuteroido Gyarakushī, written コクーンアステロイドギャラクシー, and in the Korean version, Kokun Aseuteroideu Galleoksi, written 코쿤 아스테로이드 갤럭시, are transliterated from "Cocoon Asteroid Galaxy." Its Chinese name is Jiǎnxíng xīngqún yínhé, which literally means "Cocoon-shape Star Cluster Galaxy" and is written as 茧形星群银河. In French, the Galaxy's name is "Galaxie Astéroïdes aux Cocons," with "Astéroïdes aux Cocons" meaning "Cocoon Asteroids." In German, it is called Kokon-Asteroiden-Galaxie, meaning "Cocoon Asteroid Galaxy." Its Italian and Spanish names, Galàssia Larva Elástica and Galáxia Larva Elástica, literally mean "Elastic Larva Galaxy," with both referring to the Sling Pod.
