Silver Chomps are a new species of Chain Chomps appearing in Super Mario Galaxy 2. They work just like the other Chain Chomps in the game; however, these ones seem to follow their target, forcing the target to continuously move to avoid them or at least stay far enough away. Mario first encounters one on his way through the Rolling Masterpiece Galaxy as the boss of Silver Chomp Grudge Match, and later encounters another in the Slipsand Galaxy as an obstacle that must be avoided in Sailing the Sandy Seas and later four at the end of his journey through the Battle Belt Galaxy as the boss of Mini Planet Mega Run. Silver Chomps are invulnerable to Mario's attacks unless he uses a rainbow star to defeat them or a bouncy plant or shoves them off the edge with a durable object such as a Star Ball, as the aforementioned Silver Chomp boss in the Rolling Masterpiece Galaxy proves. Silver Chomps have red pupils that roll around in their eyes, which have yellow rims.

Names in other languages[]

In Japanese, Silver Chomps are called "Search Chomps" (Sāchi Wanwan; written サーチワンワン in Katakana), referencing their homing abilities, and their Chinese and French names are transliterations of their English name: Yínsè Wāngwāng (written 銀色汪汪) and Chomp Argenté. In German, they are called Rollender Kettenhund (Rolling Chain Chomp), although there is another rolling Chomp enemy. In Spanish, they are called Cadenas Mordelonas Buscadoras (Chain Chomp Searchers), and in Italian, they are called Càccia Categnacci (Hunt Chomps; singular Càccia Categnáccio.) Their internal name is WanwanSearch.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first instance of "Wolfpack Bosses" in the Super Mario Galaxy franchise.
  • A large version of these enemies was shown in the E3 2009 trailer for the game, but never made it into the final version.
