"Our once beautiful castle...no...look at it now. No doubt those fiends call it Shroob Castle."
Toadsworth the Younger, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

Shroob Castle (ゲドンコ城 Gedonko Jō?) is a location in the Mario & Luigi series. It is the result of Princess Peach's Castle being taken over by Shroobs during the past. It is also where the final chapter takes place. The Save Block recognizes it as Peach's Castle of the past, regardless of Princess Shroob's control and the castle's appearance.

Description[]

Shroob Castle bears quite identical to what Princess Peach's Castle looked like before its takeover, only darker, with the Shroob emblem and more purple in coloration. The areas and dungeons resemble the one of the present-day castle, though most of them, such as Princess Peach's room, the castle bridge are different. The also two statues on the castle, one comes from the blocked entrance and the other a giant Princess Shroob's Statue tower can be seen at the top.

History[]

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[]

In the past time period, moments before the Shroob takeover, the castle was once home of Baby Princess Peach. Young Toadsworth invited Baby Mario and Baby Luigi to play with Baby Peach until Baby Bowser kidnaps her. After they defeat him, their victory was cut short when the castle starts to crumble from the Shroobs invasion with several toads are taken by UFO. With hope lost, Baby Bowser contact the Koopa Cruiser to evacuate others from the castle in which they successfully did. Sometime later, a time machine appears with the arrival of the future Princess Peach, Toadbert and Toadiko. Much to their shock and confusion, they're surrounded by Shroobs and two princess beginning to capture her, however Peach uses the Cobalt Star that powered the time machine to imprison the Elder Princess Shroob and it shatters, and the shards are scattered across the Mushroom Kingdom. The younger Princess Shroob then ambushes and captures Peach locked inside on top of the statue tower, while Toadiko and Toadbert escape the castle only to get separated.

The castle now newly converted called Shroob Castle, Princess Shroob notices the Koopa Cruiser far distance. She sends a transmission and fires a Shroob Missile heading straight to the Koopa Cruiser leading to crash land its course.

After the Mario Bros. assemble the rest of the scattered shards of the Cobalt Star, they eventually go through infiltrate Shroob Castle, inside they find warp pipe passage to enter where Peach is being locked, only for a Chain Chomp bash the pipe sewer, redirecting it destination through the cellar's underground basement.

The Bros. then leave the basement and finally arrived inside to rescue Peach as the Shroob Castle's Tower is being attacked by Princess Shroob. At the top of the highest tower, they hijack a Shroob Battleship and engage Princess Shroob aboard the Shroob Mother Ship, eventually taking it down. As they return downstairs to investigate the wreckage alongside Princess Peach, a furious Princess Shroob descends from the wreckage on a floating throne, declares Peach useless and moving to finish the group off and take over the kingdom, shouting "Destroy!" as the Bros. prepare to battle her.

As the Mario Bros. defeated her, they were soon able to leave the tower only to spot the almost-whole Cobalt Star floating entering the room. Princess Peach reveals that she has the final shard, and that she refuses to let it be reassembled, confusing the adult Mario Bros.; Baby Bowser suddenly ambushes the group and snatches the shard, assembling the Cobalt Star, much to Peach horror shout him no to do it. Princess Shroob suddenly crawls into view, shouting that it is her sister's turn to defeat them now before her eyes go dim and she explodes in a burst of sparks; the Cobalt Star then begins darting around, storming the room and turns Baby Bowser into a Shroob Mushroom. Princess Peach tells Mario and Luigi the truth about the Cobalt Star just before the Elder Princess Shroob regains her true form.

As her form is restored, Elder Princess Shroob promises to kill the Bros. and Peach as revenge for her sister's death and then activates the platform they were standing on, engaging them in battle high skies above Shroob Castle. The heroes finally defeat the Elder Princess Shroob as she becomes a Shroob mushroom, although not before knowing that even with her defeat, the Shroobs would still destroy the Mushroom Kingdom regardless. The heroes soon learn about Shroobs true weakness: Baby Tears.

Soon after, Professor E. Gadd sends Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Stuffwell and Princess Peach back to their own present.

Music[]

The music in Shroob Castle is a key-shifted arrangement of the Shroob theme, which plays in the opening scene as well as while the four Bros. are aboard the Shroob Mother Ship. When going through the time hole entrance, no music plays in the area and the music starts only after the player enters through the gate, which is blocked off until the player defeats the Elder Shrooboid at the Star Shrine.

Trivia[]

  • It is possible to enter Shroob Castle after learning the Bros. Ball technique from Toadsworth and his past self using a glitch. It is technically possible for the player to defeat the final boss while having only collected two Cobalt Star shards.
  • It is unknown what became of Shroob Castle after the Shroobs became extint. The overworld map never showed no spew water coming from the Time Hole by the Hydrogush. It is possible other places near Shroob Castle was affected return back to its original state just as Young Toadsworth, Baby Peach, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi arrive in their time period.
  • When visiting Shroob Castle the first time before the fifth Cobalt Star shard is obtained, Stuffwell talks to the bros. about this castle and how it is blocked off.
