The Shooting Star is one of Mario's three signature karts in Mario Kart DS, the other two being Standard MR and B Dasher.
Description[]
This kart is shaped after its namesake. It is a small, bright yellow star, with a center for the character's emblem is, and zig-zag shaped edges behind the star with a small, hollow part for the driver to sit in.
In Mario Kart DS[]
To unlock this, the player must complete all 100cc Nitro Grand Prix cups.
This kart has good Acceleration, but is a very Light kart and has low Items. In fact, the Shooting Star is the lightest kart within the entire game, along with Yoshi's Egg 1, not counting the drivers' weight. Meanwhile, its Speed, Handling and Drift are average.
The kart shares its speed with Princess Daisy's Light Dancer, it shares its acceleration with Luigi's Standard LG and Princess Peach's Light Tripper, its weight is equivalent with Princess Daisy Light Dancer (if Mario is put in the Shooting Star) but is equivalent to Yoshi's Egg 1 (not counting the drivers' weight. It also shares its handling with Toad's 4-Wheel Cradle and Waluigi's Gold Mantis, as well as the Gold Mantis sharing the Shooting Star's drift. It also shares its low items stat with all other characters' lighter karts.
Toad and Wario can use the Shooting Star once the player completes all 150cc Nitro or Retro Grand Prix cups, as well as Waluigi's Zipper kart. All racers can use the Shooting Star once all cups in the Mirror Class have been completed.
Mario in the Shooting Star is the Staff Ghost used on Mario Circuit, with the time of 1:56:533.
