Shine Tower is a location in Super Mario Sunshine.
Description[]
The Shine Tower is a monument containing the egg of the legendary Sand Bird. There is a globe-like device on top of Shine Tower that gathers sunlight to direct it at the Sand Bird's egg. The Shine Tower is surrounded by three large mirrors, each placed in a different position to reflect the sun's rays onto the globe and help incubate the Sand Bird's egg.
The Shine Tower can be seen from a distance in various courses, such as Ricco Harbor, Pinna Park, Sirena Beach, and Pianta Village.
In Super Mario Sunshine[]
The Shine Tower is the focus of Gelato Beach's second episode, Mirror Madness! Tilt, Slam, Bam!. When Mario starts the episode, a Pianta informs Mario that Wiggler is sleeping on the Shine Tower's globe structure and that Plungelos are on the three mirrors, upsetting the balance of each one, therefore collectively disturbing the life cycle of the still unborn Sand Bird. To fix a mirror's orientation, Mario has to use FLUDD to spray the Plungelos to the edge of a mirror and then ground-pound the opposite end to launch the Plungelos off. A short scene is then shown of the mirror aligning to the globe structure on the Shine Tower. Each time this occurs, the globe on top of the Shine Tower glows even brighter. Once all three mirrors have had their alignment fixed, the globe glows very bright, causing Wiggler to fall off the tower and a Shine Sprite to appear.
Some time prior to Gelato Beach's fourth episode, The Sand Bird is Born, the Sand Bird hatched, leaving behind only a cracked eggshell inside of the Shine Tower. During the episode, Mario has to bounce from a trampoline near the large hole behind the Shine Tower to land into the broken egg. The large hole was not present in prior episodes, so it was presumably made by the Sand Bird. By landing into the shell, Mario is somehow transported to a cloud near the flying Sand Bird in the skies, where the remainder of the episode takes place.
In subsequent episodes of Gelato Beach, there are steel bars blocking the large hole on the side of the Shine Tower, making it no longer accessible.
