The Shadow Koopa Troopa is a monster that can be encountered as an enemy in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. They are called "NokonokoDark" in the game files.

Physical description[]

As their name implies, Shadow Koopa Troopas are shadow-infused Koopa Troopas with black bodies and red eyes.

Behavior[]

Shadow Koopa Troopas are identical in their behaviour to regular Koopa Troopas; however, Mario cannot defeat them normally; completing the Wonder Effect destroys them, however.

In game[]

Shadow Koopa Troopas make their only appearance in the level Beware of the Rifts; here, they are summoned when Mario grabs a Wonder Flower, resulting in five medals with Wonder Flower images popping up. When Mario collects the Wonder Seed, the Shadow Koopa Troopas will be destroyed instantly.

Trivia[]

  • Shadow Koopa Troopas were originally going to wear glasses according to unused game files; these glasses do not appear in the final game.

Nomenclature[]

In Japanese, Shadow Koopa Troopas are called Kage Nokonoko, which means "Shadow Koopa Troopa." Their file name is "NokonokoDark," with "nokonoko" being the Japanese name for the Koopa Troopa.
