Shadows are a recurring species in the Mario franchise.
Description[]
Shadows are described as beings of pure darkness and tend not to have a true physical form. Shadows are beings that can control or manipulate darkness and tend to live over a long period of time. Shadows could include beings of nightmare (such as Antasma), beings of evil (such as the Shadow Queen), or beings of pure darkness (such as Shadoo).
Shadows could also include reoccurring characters in the series that can turn into a being of Shadow by a special method. A good example of this is Bowser Jr. who is able to turn into Shadow Mario in Super Mario Sunshine by the use of the magic paintbrush. Fawful is another example who manipulated the Dark Star until becoming Dark Fawful and, eventually, a being of pure darkness itself. The Cosmic Clones from the Super Mario Galaxy series are also good examples of Shadows that are enemies.
