Sayonara is a location featured in two The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episodes, "Mario Meets Koop-zilla" and "Karate Koopa," the latter featuring it as the main setting. It is an Oriental city heavily based on traditional buildings in real-world Japan.

Description[]

In "Mario Meets Koop-zilla," Sayonara has a more metropolitan appearance whereas in "Karate Koopa" it is a village. This change in settlement is likely because in the former episode, Koop-zilla (King Koopa's alias for the episode) destroyed the whole city in a similar manner to Godzilla.

Etymology[]

The city shares a name with the Japanese word "sayonara," meaning "good bye."
