Salvo the Slime's Castle is the eighth and last level of World 1 in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and the Game Boy Advance version, Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island. It is the first castle in the whole game.

Layout[]

A few inches from the starting point is a 3D spinning polygonal block where two red coins are. The player then encounters a paddle platform over a pool of lava. Two red coins (4) can be found on the bottom platform, with an additional two generic coins a mere inch away. Two more red coins (6) are above a 3D spinning polygonal block, over more lava. After crossing another pool of lava using an automatically spinning paddle platform, with two Podoboos on each end, the player will find another 3D spinning polygonal block over lava with ten coins above in the shape of a W. Six coins are red (12). Above the coins is a Smiley Flower (1). To get it, the player can climb up to the right to get to a top (note that in the GBA version, the squarish top is remodeled to look like stairs) where they'll also find two coins. One of them is a red one (13).

The pipe on the right takes the player into a water-filled room with a Spray Fish. There is also a liquid lift, and a pipe where Yellow Shy Guys come hopping out (this doesn't happen in the GBA version). The liquid lift takes the player higher where they can get a Smiley Flower (2), and hop to a left or right path, but one has to choose quickly before the liquid lift swiftly goes down. The left path takes you to a Smiley Flower (3), and the right path (note that in the GBA version, this room is preceded by a tunnel) takes you to two red coins (15), a Middle Ring, and a Winged Cloud containing stars.

In the next main room after (in the GBA version, the room after the liquid lift room contains a little area with a pipe that Purple Shy Guys come hopping out of), the first thing the player meets is a Message Block that talks about hitting blocks to make the red/green spiked platforms flip, which are dominant in this area. If the player heads all the way to the right, they can get a Smiley Flower (4) although a Bandit is near. The player can go up the first green platform and use an egg to get stars from a Winged Cloud on the left. To the right lies three red coins (18) on a red platform on its spiked side. The player must work their way up and hit the red block to flip it over. The safest way of doing so is using an egg, since the block is above the spiked side. The player can hop on the spinning paddle wheel platform after the red platform with the coins to get a required key out of the flower pot. From that point, the player can hop up and keep going right to get the last Smiley Flower (5). Down from that is the locked door that the player can get to by hopping on the flipped red platforms. The player collects three regular coins and the final red coins (20) of the stage. Beneath that, there is an Egg Block on the right as well as flippers above the fourth Smiley Flower (if the player hadn't got it before).

In the final room, the player must be taken up by an arrow wheel. The arrow wheel must go straight up then leftwards where the boss door is, after a set of 12 coins. A Middle Ring is right below the door.

Boss Battle[]

The player encounters a little Lemon Drop that falls from the ceiling after a small walk to the boss room. Kamek enlarges it to become Salvo the Slime. The player must eat the Lemon Drops that come from the ceiling to make eggs, and to throw at Salvo which shrinks his size (and makes more Lemon Drops come out). The player must keep doing this until he is defeated and becomes nothing more than a speck of slime.
