"No, no, no! The star of the show isn't Mario, you uncultured hacks! The real superstar... is ME!"
—The Rubber Band appears for real.

The Rubber Band is the second chapter boss who is encountered in Paper Mario: The Origami King. Nicknamed the Elastic Entertainer, he is composed of Rubber Bands, taking on a humanoid shape. He traps several Mushroom Retainers in his theatre, forcing them to watch him perform. The Rubber Band guards the blue streamer.

Battle[]

The Rubber Band has around 200 hit points during his battle. His attacks all have him use his rubber bands. He also has a defensive move that involves placing objects called Bumper Bands that redirect Mario's movements in random spots in the arena.

When he goes on the offensive, the Rubber Band launches several rubber bands towards Mario, trapping him for another attack. He can also use Solo Snapback to deal more damage to the plumber, but even if the Rubber Band makes his mark with this move, Paper Mario will merely get knocked backward and return to his spot at the outer edge so he can retaliate.

The Rubber Band's main weakness is grabbing the black Rubber Band hair on his head and pulling back, then releasing to deal damage.

After enough damage, the boss will break down into his component Rubber Bands, exposing his core, which bears the symbol of King Olly. At this point, Paper Mario can slam the boss down and launch him to end the fight.

During the final cutscene, the Rubber Band dramatically yells out his final words, chewing out a Bard and Muses for abandoning him and stating his desires to "make this place grand, eliminat[ing] things dull and bland". He then accepts his defeat and collapses, his body exploding. Following the Rubber Band's dying explosion, Paper Mario can destroy the Blue Streamer.
