Super Mario Mario & Luigi

Roto-Discs, alternatively spelled Roto-discs or Rotodiscs, are obstacles which first appear in Super Mario Bros. 3. Roto-Discs are strange, circular, plasma-ball-like objects that are commonly found in castles. They are commonly seen spinning around orbs and require precision to avoid, like a Firebar or a Ball 'n' Chain. Roto-Discs are commonly indestructible and only few attacks are able to destroy them.

In Super Mario series[]

A Still Roto-Disc

Roto-Discs are first seen in Super Mario Bros. 3 appearing as the spiritual successor to the Firebar for this game commonly appearing in the game's various fortresses. Roto-Discs are seen spinning around an orb and Mario/Luigi must wait until the plasma-ball spins out of his way before continuing, if the plumbers are hit by the Roto-Disc, they take damage, Roto-Discs are commonly seen near lava pits (especially those with Podoboos leaping out) and small hallways to increase the plumbers precision in avoiding them. Some Roto-Discs are also notable for being able to spin faster than others, like their predecessors (the Firebars) Roto-Discs are nearly invincible and can only be destroyed with the effects of a Tanooki Suit.

Super Mario Land[]

Roto-Discs return as obstacles in Super Mario Land. They behave the same way they did in Super Mario Bros. 3 and are commonly found in the Chai Kingdom. In this game, they are fully indestructible and not even the effects of a Starman can destroy one also, all Roto-Discs are seen spinning at the same speed as others and are overall rather uncommon in this game.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga / Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[]

Roto-Disc Classic

Mario near a Roto-Disc

Roto-Discs appear as a hazard in a 2D section of Bowser's Castle (alongside the Podoboos) inspired by the classic Super Mario Bros. Castles as a primary hazard during the various hallways. One touch of a Roto-Disc will force Mario (Luigi can't access the area) to restart the area. Roto-Discs are obviously invincible and cannot be destroyed in this game.
