Mario Party

Roller Coasters is a 4-player and Duel minigame which appears in Mario Party DS.

Layout[]

The minigame takes place within a vertical, straightforward sandbox. At the end is a sand castle designed in the likeness of the castles in Super Mario Bros..

Gameplay[]

Every character is riding their own rubber ball, each having a different color from one another. The objective for each character is to be the first one to reach the sand castle at the end. Along the way they encounter a few obstacles, including buckets, moving toy trucks, and houses constructed from blocks, and they briefly halt a character's movement if bumped into.

Ending[]

The winning character is on top of the sand castle, doing their victory animation, while the losing characters are in front of the castle, where they perform their losing animation. If the characters all reach the end at the same time or no one has crossed the finish line within five minutes, the minigame ends in a tie, during which every character is standing in front of the sand castle. In the Duel variation, if both characters break the current record but get a tie, the new record is still counted, but the minigame display the message "Tie" after the new record fanfare is played.

Controls[]

  • Stylus: Roll the character's ball

Trivia[]

  • The minigame's name is a reference to "roller coaster," a type of amusement park ride, even though none appear within the minigame.
