Return of the Moving Chomp Rock! is the extra stage of World 1 in Yoshi's Island DS. A White Yoshi takes control in this level, this level is unlocked by attaining 800 total points in World 1. The level obviously primarily involves using a Chomp Rock and rolling it along a path to plow all the enemies and hazards in the way, the level also utilizes puzzles which also require the use of the Chomp Rock. The level itself takes place in a forest of colorful pine trees at night and primarily takes place in huts full of enemies.
Interestingly, the whole level can be completed without using the Chomp Rocks. However, the Chomp Rocks are needed to obtain many Red Coins and Flowers. So if the level is completed without the Chomp Rocks or if Yoshi loses the Chomp Rocks, it will not be possible to score 100 points on this level.
Walkthrough[]
Starting off the level, advance to the left and slurp up the Shy Guys before you start pushing the Chomp Rock (you're going to need the eggs for the path ahead), once done, start rolling the Chomp Rock and switch to Baby DK (if you haven't already) as pushing the Chomp Rock is heaps easier with him due to his added strength. Roll the Chomp Rock down the path, if any Stakes get in the way, pound them to keep the Chomp Rock moving. Grab the Coins above and continue rolling the Chomp Rock downward (if the Chomp Rock ends up against a wall, stand on the edge of it to roll it back on course), after this, continue rolling the Chomp Rock down the path plowing the Tap-Taps and pounding any Stakes in your way as well as collecting Coins, after guiding the Chomp Rock to the lower path, leave the Chomp Rock and move to the right (be sure not to roll the Chomp Rock to the right as it will get stuck in the trench if you do), kill the Piranha Plants and stun the Blow Hards to get the Coins and Red Coin, also pound the two Stakes here as there is a Red Coin in one of them. After this, roll the Chomp Rock up the hill plowing through the Tap-Taps in the way, a Stake blocks the Chomp Rock from moving here, before hitting the Winged Cloud, drop down to the lower platform with the Bill Blaster and launch an egg to obtain the three Red Coins dangling above the pit but watch out for Bullet Bills (if you hit the Winged Cloud first, you won't be able to grab the Red Coins so be careful). Once you've gotten the Red Coins, hit the Winged Cloud to form a path and pound the Stake to allow the Chomp Rock to continue moving. Roll it along the path and up the hill, leave it and use it as a stepping stone to reach the platform above to get the two Red Coins (alongside five yellow Coins as a bonus), after this, return back to the track and roll the Chomp Rock down the stairs, from here, leave it on the brown platform and kill the two Sluggers here before pushing the Chomp Rock any further (if you leave the Chomp Rock with the Sluggers, they will whack it back and forth and will have a high chance of knocking it off the nearby pit). Once the Sluggers have been dealt with, leave the Chomp Rock in the area they once patrolled and drop down the pit and into the niche below, watch out for the Eggo-Dil and kill the two Green Gloves here, and grab the Coins and Red Coin here as well as the invisible Winged Cloud in the corner (the Winged Cloud contains five Stars, once done, return to the upper paths and return to the Chomp Rock to start rolling it back on track, pound the Stake and grab the Coins, be careful of the Bungee Piranha, kill it and use the Chomp Rock to hop up to the upper platforms where a Smiley Flower is (there is an invisible Winged Cloud containing a 1-Up where the Bungee Piranha once was so be sure to grab hit this if you want it), after this, roll the Chomp Rock down the main path and leave the Chomp Rock by the Stake, drop down, hit the invisible Winged Cloud to get some more Stars and hit the ! Switch to make the switch blocks solid, after this, roll the Chomp Rock on the switch blocks and use it as a stepping stone to reach the swinging rope which you can use to grab the Red Coins, you can also use it to swing to the upper ledge and pound the Stakes to access the small nook where the Smiley Flower is but watch out for the Dizzy Dandy beside it (hit the Dizzy Dandy with an egg to taunt it into coming out when anticipated). Once done, return to the Chomp Rock and roll it down the hill and into the pit, on the way down, the Chomp Rock will reveal an invisible Winged Cloud, hit it with either an egg or a Koopa Troopa Shell to reveal a Smiley Flower and toss a third projectile at the Smiley Flower to collect it (there is a Stork Stop here but it is highly recommended to ignore it and remain with Baby DK at this time), after this enter the door to enter the next area.
After entering the door, advance to the right and hop to the ledge and follow the path (whilst avoiding the Tap-Taps) and tag the Middle Ring, roll the Chomp Rock here to the left and plow through the incoming Tap-Taps and roll the Chomp Rock up the hill and pound the Stake (but watch out for the Podoboo Cog) then tag the Stork Stop (switching to Baby Mario or Baby Peach here is optional as it will make getting two of the Red Coins up ahead easier but it makes pushing the Chomp Rock harder), park the Chomp Rock at the top of the hill, use it as a platform to reach the ! Switch on the platform above and from here, start rolling it down the path of switch blocks, leave the Chomp Rock on a platform and run across the switch blocks to grab a Smiley Flower to the left and two Red Coins to the right (just watch out for the Needlenose Plants that spit Needlenoses above), if the switch's effects are starting to run out, hit the second ! Switch on the platform above the platform you left the Chomp Rock on, roll the Chomp Rock across the set of switch blocks and then up the hill, plowing through the Tap-Taps in your path (be sure to watch out for the Blow Hards above as they spit Needlenoses down at you), leave the Chomp Rock by the bridge and hop onto the Stake to reach the ! Switch, hit the switch to make the blocks solid and roll the Chomp Rock across them, pound the Stake down twice (as Baby Mario or Baby Peach) or preform a simple ground (without holding the down button pound which knocks down the entire stake) (as Baby DK), roll the Chomp Rock across the switch blocks (whilst avoiding the Drool Hards' Needlenose "missiles") and pound the next stake then park the Chomp Rock on the switch to activate the switch blocks up ahead. Go back to the two stakes and pound them all the way to earn the Red Coins inside them, and then walk across the switch blocks and grab the Smiley Flower on the platform above, then use a Chomp Rock on the spikes and roll it on the edge (by carefully and slowly walking backwards along the rock's edge) to safely cross the spikes grab some Red Coins along the sea of spikes (two are along the path and one is above) whilst watching out for the Blow Hards spitting Needlenoses as you "moonwalk" your Chomp Rock across the spikes. Once done, hop to the upper platform, grab the Red Coin, then grab the two final Red Coins at the beginning of the Coin-line leading to the end, jump through the GOAL! Ring to finish the level.
