Red Yoshi is one of the more recurring color variants of the Yoshi species. One first appears alongside the main Yoshi character in Super Mario World.
In Super Mario World[]
Red Yoshi has the distinct ability of breathing out three fireballs at once. To do this, Red Yoshi has to put a Koopa Shell of any color into his mouth. Before releasing the Koopa Shell, it turns into three red fireballs and is therefore released as such.
In Yoshi franchise[]
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island[]
Red Yoshi is one of eight Yoshis who assists Mario on his journey. He is playable only in the seventh level of each world.
Yoshi's Story[]
Red Yoshi returns as one of the playable Yoshis. His favorite food is apples. Starting with this appearance, Red Yoshi wears blue shoes instead of brown.
Yoshi's Island DS[]
Red Yoshi returns from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island as one of the eight playable Yoshis. Just as before, Red Yoshi is played in the seventh level of each world.
Trivia[]
- Red Yoshis would have been among the Yoshi colors to appear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but was removed in favor of Pink Yoshi. Red Yoshi was likely removed very late into development, as there is artwork of Blue Toad riding a Red Yoshi, but before the game's release, the artwork was modified to show him riding on a Pink Yoshi instead.
