Super Mario Mario Kart

The Red Flagpole is an uncommon exit introduced and currently found only within the New Super Mario Bros. series. They can be distinguish from their regular counterpart from having a red flag instead of a black one. Red Flagpoles first appear in New Super Mario Bros.. Red Flagpoles often mark the locations of secret exits. Going down a Red Flagpoles into the secret exit creates a path to shortcuts, such as a Warp Pipe on the map, Toad Houses, Warp Cannons, and secret levels. Typically this is required to fully complete the game making finding all the Red Flagpoles and standard Flagpoles a requirement for attaining 5 Stars on a save file.

Red Flagpoles have a few equivalents serving as alternate level exits in some earlier Super Mario series installments, including Warp Zones in Super Mario Bros. and the Key and Keyhole in Super Mario World.
