Red Coins in a Bottle is the third episode of Noki Bay in Super Mario Sunshine.

Layout[]

Aside from Mario being greeted by the Noki Elder at the start, the entire episode takes place in a small glass bottle filled with water. Despite Mario and the Noki Elder meeting at the starting point of the course, which is on the ground, the bottle is surrounded by a sky background, as if it were located way up in the sky, comparable to The Secret Aquarium from Super Mario 64 in that it is an enclosed underwater area which takes place in the sky.

There is a half-opened door on the side of the sand castle at the bottom of the bottle. Although it cannot be entered by Mario, positioning the camera at a certain angle reveals a book. It is impossible to get through the door through normal means, but if a glitch is used to get to the book, touching it has no effect. The book is part of the level geometry instead of a supposed object.

Objective[]

The object is for Mario to collect eight red coins in a small glass bottle. It is intended as a tutorial to help Mario learn how to move around in water for the following episode, Eely-Mouth's Dentist.

When Mario starts the episode, he is greeted by the Noki Elder, who tells him that he has discovered the source of the pollution underwater (later revealed to be Eely-Mouth). The Noki Elder then has Mario collect the red coins in a bottle next to him as training. Before Mario shrinks to enter the bottle, he is given a helmet to extend the length of him being able to breathe while underwater.

In the bottle, as Mario moves around, he gradually loses air, so he also has to collect yellow coins to avoid drowning. To have Mario move around, the player has to use the Hover Nozzle to propel Mario in the direction he is facing. There are a few Cheep-Cheeps swimming around, and Mario has to avoid them, otherwise the Cheep-Cheep drags him to the bottom of the bottle.

Three of the red coins are scattered around the water, two are located on the ground, one is placed inside a stone structure, and two more are located near an arrow sign, which propel Mario upward if he is close enough. Once Mario has obtained all eight red coins, the Shine Sprite appears next to the stone structure.
