Rayquaza is a Legendary Pokémon from the Pokémon franchise. It made its first overall appearance in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, and made its first Mario-related appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Aside from the Super Smash Bros. series, Rayquaza has not appeared in any other Mario-related games.

In Super Smash Bros. series[]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

Rayquaza is the second boss of Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary. He is fought at The Lake by both Fox McCloud and a Donkey Kong character, Diddy Kong. Like the other bosses, Rayquaza can later be fought in The Great Maze as well as in the unlockable Boss Battles mode.

Aside from this, Rayquaza is also featured as both a Trophy and a Sticker. The Sticker can only be equipped by Lucario, and doing so increases his aura attack by 24. Rayquaza has the distinction of being the only Pokémon who is neither playable nor summoned from a Poké Ball to have its own Sticker.

Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary[]

The boss fight against Rayquaza in Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary

During a cutscene of The Lake, Rayquaza suddenly emerges from a lake upon hearing Diddy Kong. Rayquaza attacks Fox's Arwing using Dragon Pulse and snatches Diddy in its claws. As Diddy is screaming for help, Fox manages to escape the Arwing and uses Fox Illusion to break Diddy free of Rayquaza's grasp. Rayquaza attempts to attack Fox using Dragon Pulse, but Fox uses Reflector to deflect it back at Rayquaza, who falls back into the lake.

After the cutscene, Fox and Diddy have to fight Rayquaza, who attacks by flying across the screen quickly, burrowing into the ground and then bursting upward shortly afterward, and using Dragon Pulse. Like the other bosses, Rayquaza's health can be lowered from using physical attacks on it. Like in the cutscene, Fox can use his Reflector to counter Rayquaza's Dragon Pulse.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[]

Rayquaza is one of the Pokémon to sometimes appear as a stage hazard in Kalos Pokémon League. Here, Rayquaza spins around in a similar manner to one of its attacks from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, damaging whoever it comes in contact with it. Rayquaza's line of sight is indicated by a flash of lightning. Aside from this, Rayquaza also appears as a Trophy.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

Rayquaza returns in the Kalos Pokémon League stage, acting the same as before. It is also featured as a Primary spirit.
