Raphael the Raven, also goes by either Raphael Raven or simply Raphael, is a character that first appeared as a boss in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Raphael Raven is first seen as an average sized Raven until Kamek turns him bigger. It is revealed in Paper Mario that he retained his size.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Raphael the Raven is the boss of World 5, and is fought on the moon in space. When Raphael is enlarged, he bumps into Blue Yoshi which makes him lose his eggs. Because of this, Yoshi can only damage him with stumps that pop out of the planet. Raphael must be situated on top of a hole, and once he is, Yoshi can ground pound the stump he is on at the other end and make it pop out of the hole Raphael is sitting on, damaging him. Raphael doesn't always have to be standing on top of a hole, though, as the player could quickly ground pound the stump while he is moving to damage him, which ultimately makes the battle go quicker. Raphael jiggles and trots around the moon, with the only attack he mainly does is causing two sparks to circle around the moon. The more and more he's hit, the redder and angrier he becomes. Once he is defeated, he will fly into the starry sky and become a star.

Paper Mario

After many years have past, Raphael the Raven has mellowed out and now has become an ally to Mario in this game. Mario has trouble getting into Mt. Lavalava and requests the help of Raphael the Raven. Raphael agrees and he has the other Ravens build a transportation system that allows Mario to get into Mt. Lavalava.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Raphael the Raven only appears as a trophy named simply "Raphael Raven".

  • Raphael the Raven's name and how he turned angry in Paper Mario may be a reference to Raphael, one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
