Purple Yoshi is one of several color variations of Yoshi. One first appears in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Purple Yoshi has been featured as a character, such as in the Yoshi's Island series, or as a palette swap like in the Super Smash Bros. series. It has not appeared as often as other Yoshis such as Red Yoshis.
In the Yoshi's Island series[]
In every Yoshi's Island game, which includes Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi's New Island, a Purple Yoshi is always the playable Yoshi in the fifth level of every world.
In Super Mario Sunshine[]
In Super Mario Sunshine, Mario can have Yoshi turn into a Purple Yoshi by having it eat either a pepper or a durian.
In the Super Smash Bros. series[]
Since Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Purple Yoshi has appeared as one of Yoshi's alternate costumes.
