Punkey attacks by shooting Needlenoses out of the plant on his head. He can also ram into Yoshi.
In Yoshi's New Island[]
Punkey is fought as the boss of World 5, in Punkey the Pokey Prince's Castle. Here, Kamek is seen changing Punkey from a normal Pokey into his enlarged form.
During the boss fight against Punkey, Yoshi can hit his segments with eggs when spikes are not protracting from them. Punkey's vulnerable spot is its head, and hitting it angers Punkey, who then starts to drill into Yoshi. Once he is done, Punkey adds another segment to his body. After taking another hit in the head, Punkey adds another segment to his body. After a third and final hit, Punkey is defeated.
