Puffer-Cheeps are a purple pufferfish variation of Cheep Cheep encountered as an enemy in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. They were replaced by Spiny Cheep-Cheeps in the remake Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions.

Description[]

Puffer-cheeps look like pufferfish, though they have a regular Cheep Cheep's mowhawk. Their body is covered in spikes that protect them from Jump-based attacks (except Advanced Splash Bros., but including the basic Jump, non-Advanced Splash Bros., and both versions of Bounce Bros., Swing Bros., and Knockback Bros.).

Battle[]

Puffer-Cheeps are not on the map besides Cheep Cheeps. Puffer-Cheeps are found in the Oho Ocean Seabed. They form from or change back to Cheep Cheep when they take damage. They can poison Mario or Luigi by attacking them or if either brother jumps onto a Puffer-Cheep. They attack by ramming the Bros., but how they must be blocked differs depending on whether they are puffed up or not. While puffed up, they must be kept at bay via hammer; otherwise, they must be avoided via jumping. The Spiny Cheep-Cheeps attack the same way that Puffer-Cheeps do in the remake.
