Ptooies are a variant of Piranha Plant in the Mario franchise. They first appear in Super Mario Bros. 3.
Profile[]
Physical description[]
A Ptooie has the appearance of a Piranha Plant head, but with its stem forked into two short legs. In Super Princess Peach, Ptooies have a light green head akin to a Wild Ptooie Piranha's.
Behavior[]
Ptooie is always blowing a Spiked Ball slightly above it while moving around using its two legs. In Super Mario Bros. 3, a Ptooie occasionally blows its spiked ball high up to try and damage Mario or Luigi. In Super Princess Peach, upon losing its spiked ball, a Ptooie moves back and forth until being defeated.
In The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Ptooies always attack Mario and company on sight. They are sometimes used as guns. Unlike their other appearances, Ptooies can shoot several Spiked Balls in any direction. In "Never Koop a Koopa," Ptooies are shown to have the ability to talk.
In Super Mario Bros. 3[]
Ptooies first appear in the level World 6-1. Mario or Luigi can defeat a Ptooie by from either a fireballs, hammers, Koopa Shells, or a tail whip attack while in either Raccoon or Tanooki form. Defeating a Ptooie earns the player 100 points. Additionally, crushing the spiked ball as Statue Mario yields 2,000 points.
In Super Princess Peach[]
Ptooies are encountered in Hoo's Wood. They were also given a variant, Glad Ptooie. If Princess Peach uses Rage or Poundbrella nearby a Ptooie, it loses its spiked ball. They will then simply move back and forth slowly until defeated. Even without the ball, Ptooies cannot be stomped.
In Paper Mario series[]
Paper Mario: Color Splash[]
Ptooies are enemies encountered in Mossrock Theater and The Emerald Circus. In battle, a Ptooie can blow its Spiked Balls with enough force to fall on Mario. If a Ptooie is without its Spiked Ball, it instead uses a biting attack. They can be summoned by Lemmy Koopa to assist in battle, along with Circus Bros. and Juggler Bros. There is also a character named Piper who is a Ptooie.
Paper Mario: The Origami King[]
Origami Ptooies appear as enemies instead of regular Ptooies. A regular Ptooie can be found in the Shroom City café, singing.
In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Booster Course Pass)[]
In wave 4 of Booster Course Pass, Ptooies appear as obstacles in GBA Riverside Park, unlike the track's original iteration. Instead of blowing a Spiked Ball, a Ptooie blows items such as Dash Mushrooms and Banana Peels. If the Ptooie is hit by an item, it drops whichever item it was blowing onto the ground. Ptooies do not blow any items in Time Trials or when the item settings are not set on Normal Items.
Crossover appearances[]
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
Ptooies do not appear, although they are referenced a few times. Piranha Plant can produce a Spiked Ball and hover it in place in the same manner as a Ptooie, and he can additionally direct the Spiked Ball another direction to attack fighters. The playable Piranha Plant has feet like a Ptooie, although remains inside of its flower pot. Ptooies are among the Piranha Plant species mentioned by Viridi in the Palutena's Guidance dialogue for Piranha Plant.
