"Chilliam! You're so adorable!"
—Princess Burnadette voices her love for Prince Chilliam when encountered in Mario & Luigi: Brothership.

Princess Burnadette of Skorcheen, also simply referred to as Princess Burnadette or just Burnadette, is a supporting character from Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Burnadette acts as the princess of the Skorcheen folk. Due to her people being at war with Slippenglide, Burnadette fled to Bulbfish Island with Chilliam so they could date in peace.

Profile[]

Physical Appearance[]

Princess Burnadette is a fat Concordian woman who wears a brown fire-themed dress. She has orange skin and reddish-orange hair.

Personality[]

Princess Burnadette is shown to be the more energetic of the couple.

History[]

Burnadette first appears when Mario and Luigi visit Bulbfish Island in the Brrning Sea chapter of the game, where she and Chilliam are seen making out. According to his explanation when spoken to, Chilliam and his girlfriend fled their homes due to their peoples being at war so they could date in peace. Later, the couple is arrested for stealing Bulbfish Eggs with the primary evidence being that they are strangers, but the duo are released from prison when Mario and Luigi find the true perpetrator.

Mario and Luigi reconnect Bulbfish Island to the Uni-Tree, after which Chilliam and Burnadette visit the island with a request to reconnect Heatfreeze Island, despite the Skorcheen and Slippenglide peoples still fighting. After the Bros. do so, Chilliam is turned against Burnadette (horrifying her) by Ten. Burnadette asks Mario and Luigi to find a way to bring Chilliam's old self back, which the Bros. do by freeing Doctor Vulko. After the Bros. reconnect Skorcheen Island, Vulko reveals an Ampberry, which is his go-to method of curing Glohm infection. Chilliam, upon eating one and getting his love for Burnadette back from it, marries Burnadette.

Burnadette is later seen during the Bond collection segment of the game, where she and Chilliam fled underground on Heatfreeze Island to help their peoples. Their romance creates a blob of positive energy called a "Bond," which Mario and Luigi obtain for their invasion of the Soli-Tree.

Behind the Scenes[]

Etymology[]

Burnadette takes her name from the name French name Bernadette (a feminisation of the name Bernard, which comes from Latin Bernardus) and the word "burn," referencing how she is the princess of a fire-themed people.

Nomenclature[]

In Japanese, Burnadette is called Atchīno (written アッチーノ), from atchii (written あっちい), which is one of two translations of "hot." In Chinese, she is called Hǎorè (written 郝热), which is derived from hǎorè ("It's hot"; written 好热). Burnadette's Spanish and French names are a reference to Romeo and Juliet, being based on the unit "joule" (which measures energy, work, and heat), and the appropriate translation of "Juliet" (Joulieta for Spanish from Julieta and Jouliette for French from Juliette). She goes by "Fjammetta" in Italian, from fjamma ("flame"). In Korean, Burnadette is called Addeurina (written 아뜨리나), from addeu ("hot"; written 아뜨) and Catarina (Spanish for "Katherine"). Her German name, Brandette, comes from brand ("fire"). Similarly, in the Dutch dub, she goes by Brantoinette (pun on brand ("fire") and the French name Antoinette').'

Trivia[]

  • Burnadette's name resembles that of the Mixels character Burnard; both derive their names from the word "burn" combined with a derivative of the Latin name Bernardus.
