Prince Florian is the prince of the Flower Kingdom and the deuteragonist of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Physical description[]

Prince Florian is a green caterpillar-like creature. His eyes are black ovals stretched vertically with small white dots for pupils, and he has an orange nose. He has four arms ending in hands in white gloves and brown boots and a red cape. He wears a gold crown.

In Super Mario Bros. Wonder[]

Prince Florian invited Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Blue Toad, Yellow Toad, Toadette, and the Yoshis to his kingdom. However, after Bowser steals a Wonder Flower, causing his Koopa Clown Car to merge with Prince Florian's castle to create a massive semi-sentient fortress, Florian joins the visitors to his kingdom and helps them stop Bowser's mad plans.

Etymology[]

Prince Florian derives his name from the present active participle of Latin Flōrēre, which means "to blossom." Additionally, in German, there is a name Florian that comes from the same root.

Trivia[]

Prince Florian's design bears a resemblance to Haru-ōji's Kibidango form in Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyūshutsu Dai Sakusen!. Fans were not pleased until Florian was shown in the trailer to have been a caterpillar before Bowser made his entrance.
