The Poltergust 4000 is a kart that appears in the Mario Kart series. It debuted in Mario Kart DS.

Description[]

It is the upgraded version of the Poltergust 3000 from Luigi's Mansion, and shares some physical similarities to the Super Poltergust 3001 from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, both built by Professor E. Gadd.

The Poltergust 4000 serves as one of Luigi's three exclusive karts. His others include the Standard LG and Streamliner. It offers decent Speed, Acceleration and Handling, as well as good Off-Road and Mini-Turbo (which two of those stats are hidden to the player), but it is fairly Light and has low Drift and gets poor Items. All it's stats except drift are slightly better than Mario's Shooting Star, making it more preferable.

Its speed is shared with the Gold Mantis, making them both the fastest karts within the mediumweight class, even faster than the Rambi Rider, which is a heavyweight kart, by one point. Its weight is equivalent to the Standard TD, and the Banisher.

During gameplay, only Luigi can use the Poltergust 4000. However, if the player completes all 150cc Nitro or Retro Grand Prix cups, Yoshi and Waluigi (if he has already been unlocked) can use this kart. To let all other racers use this kart, the player must complete all cups in the 150cc Mirror Mode.

Luigi in the Poltergust 4000 is used as the staff ghost for GCN Luigi Circuit and GBA Luigi Circuit.

In pre-release versions of the game, the Poltergust 4000 had Professor Elvin Gadd's emblem on the kart, imply that had said character made it into the final build of the game, this would have been his signature kart.
