Pokey Sprout

Not to be confused with Pokey Head.

A Pokey Sprout is an enemy which appears in Super Mario Sunshine. Here, they are commonly encountered in Bianco Hills and Pinna Park. Pokey Sprouts have an identical appearance to a Pokey's head. They hide in the ground amongst the flowers but as soon as Mario approaches them, they reveal themselves and attack. Mario can defeat them by either stomping on them or using F.L.U.D.D's to spray them at a wall, doing this can cause a Pokey Sprout to splat and drop three Coins which can be very crucial for obtaining those 100-Coin Shine Sprites.

Trivia[]

The overworld sprite of Pokeys in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time appears identical to a Pokey Sprout.
Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 includes a similar variety to the Pokey Sprout called the Pokey Head. These Pokeys behave similarly but they're green and lack any spikes.
