Pokey Pummel is a recurring 4-player minigame in the Mario Party series. It first appears in Mario Party 7 and returns in Mario Party: The Top 100 and Mario Party Superstars.
Layout[]
It takes place in the desert, and it features a few Pokeys.
Opening[]
The players are standing in a desert when four Pokeys rise out of the ground. Hammers then appear in each of the playable characters' hands.
Gameplay[]
The objective is for the characters to use their hammer to swing at the segments of a Pokey's body. By hitting a segment enough times, the character can send it flying off into the distance; in Mario Party 7 and Mario Party Superstars, each segment requires five hits, while in Mario Party: The Top 100, each segment needs to be hit three times. The last segment to whack away is the Pokey's head.
To win, a character must be the first to whack every segment of a Pokey off into the distance. However, if none of the Pokeys are knocked away completely within five or three minutes in Mario Party 7 or Mario Party Superstars, respectively, the minigame ends in a draw. The shortest possible time is 1.083 seconds.[1]
In the Decathlon Castle version in Mario Party 7, the player's objective is to knock out the Pokey's segments as fast as possible to earn as many points as possible, up to 1,000. It also appears in the Half Decathlon of Mario Party: The Top 100 as the second minigame.
Ending[]
The ending to Pokey Pummel in Mario Party 7
In Mario Party 7 and Superstars, as soon as one player finishes, the other Pokeys sink into the ground, and the winner celebrates; in Mario Party 7, the camera zooms in on them. If a tie occurs in both games, all players will perform losing animations.
