Platforms are a type of object featured in several Mario-related games, including the Super Smash Bros. series.

Platforms are objects that have to be jumped across to either progress through a level or otherwise travel between areas and reach certain hidden areas. In the 2D sidescrolling games, it is possible to jump through a platform from the bottom, and in the Super Smash Bros. games, the player's character can drop through many platforms from the top as well.
There are several variations of platforms, the most common being a lift, a type of platform capable of moving either freely or in a set direction, often following a track.
