Piscatory Petes are a faster golden variant of Rip Van Fish which appears in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, and Yoshi's Island DS. They are much more aggressive than Rip Van Fish and actually chase you upon seeing you. In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, several Piscatory Petes are seen in levels Nep-Enut's Domain, Prince Froggy's Fort, and Monkey's Favorite Lake while in Yoshi's Island DS, only one Piscatory Pete appears in the entire game near the end of the Submarine section in Island of Peril however despite this, multiple Piscatory Petes appear in the Island Museum alongside some Rip Van Fish. Rip Van Fish in Super Mario World behave in the exact same way as Piscatory Petes, the only difference being is they're asleep until you approach them while these guys are just moving left to right until you approach them. Piscatory Petes and Rip Van Fishes even have similar sprites to one another.
In the original Yoshi's Island, Piscatory Petes can be instantly defeated if Yoshi shoots a missile at it while in his Submarine form. However, in Yoshi's Island DS, which removes the missiles, Piscatory Petes are effectively invincible.
Trivia[]
- Piscatory Petes slightly resemble Gold Cheep Cheeps.
- Piscatory Petes are among the few enemies from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS to not reappear in Yoshi's New Island.
- Piscatory Petes are among the few enemies who don't require an egg throw to be earned in the Island Museum due to their status as underwater foes. All Yoshi needs to do is simply encounter them.
