Pirates is a minigame hosted by Captain Wario in Game & Wario. It was developed from a Wii U demo named Shield Pose.
Opening[]
One day, when Wario goes outside of his house, driving his motorcycle, he comes across a pirate costume and decides to become a pirate.
Gameplay[]
Pirate is a single-player rhythm game that is played with the Wii U GamePad held horizontally. It involves Captain Wario giving commands to pirates on both his own ship and other ships to attack the player. Captain Wario normally says either one of four commands: "Center!", "Over!", "Left!" or "Right!". With the Wii U GamePad, the player has to move in the direction shouted by Captain Wario to block the attacks in the manner of a shield. Sometimes, if the player revisits a stage that had previously been completed with a "Perfect" rank, Captain Wario can shout "Token!", and blocking this shot earns the player a Cluck-A-Pop coin.
After the chosen song itself has concluded, a dance sequence follows prior to the conclusion of the overall stage. The player has to mimic the moves performed by a humanoid Captain Wario to build up power to charge up an energy ball. Once enough energy has been built up, the player must press the and buttons simultaneously with the rhythm to shoot the energy ball at Captain Wario and his crew.
Stages[]
There are a total of five stages:
- Sparkly Ocean: It is quite simple, and also features the game's tutorial.
- Chilly Sea: This stage plays in 6/8 time, rather than 4/4 like the other stages.
- Lively Village: This stage features arrows shot vertically, and they can be blocked by turning the Wii U GamePad vertically.
- Bubbly Volcano: Signals are now longer, so the player has to wait a bit longer to aim the Wii u GamePad at the television. During the dance segment, the player has to make various faces.
- Twinkly Planet: Retains all the mechanics from the previous stages. The final part of the dance segment allows the player to perform their own movements.
Trivia[]
- In the opening cutscene, a reporter and wrestler from Rhythm Heaven Fever can be seen on the background.
- In Tomodachi Life, Miis can occasionally be heard playing Pirates if they have a Wii U.
