Piranhabons are boulder-like Piranha Plant heads made entirely of Goop in Super Mario Sunshine.
In Super Mario Sunshine[]
They are commonly found in areas where there is heaps of brown Goop masses such as Bianco Hills. Throughout the stage on you way to the Polluted Piranha Plant near the path to the Big Windmill and during your ascent up there on the way to Petey Piranha, Piranhabons come bouncing or rolling down the pathway, creating slippery goop puddles along the way. When a Piranhabon hits a wall, it splats, creating a larger goop puddle. The only way to defeat a Piranhabon is by cleaning the goop off of it using F.L.U.D.D., and the process of doing so shows that they bear a resemblance to Petey Piranha's head, notably without the petals.
After Petey Piranha's initial defeat in Episode 2: Down with Petey Piranha!, the Piranhabons do not appear in any of the later episodes.
Trivia[]
- Piranhabons are somewhat similar to the Big Steelies in Bob-omb Battlefield as seen in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS as they are both large boulders that roll down a winding mountain during the ascent and both are being rolled by the boss on the apex (King Bob-omb for the Big Steelies, Petey Piranha for the Piranhabons).
- In the beta stages of Super Mario Sunshine, Piranhabons were going to fully resemble Petey Piranha's head, with petals added, but were later changed to be covered in goop.
- Piranhabons receive a brief passing mention by Viridi during the Palutena's Guidance dialogue for Piranha Plant in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
