Mario Party

Piranha Patch is a Free-for-All mini-game in Mario Party 9.

Opening[]

A flower bud blooms into a pink flower, then the camera then zooms out to show the entire field.

Gameplay[]

Piranha Patch Perspective Mode

Gameplay in Perspective Mode

The object is for the characters to earn the most points by collecting flowers within the thirty-second time limit. There are two types of flowers: pink flowers, which are worth one point, and gold flowers, which are worth three points. However, the characters also have to avoid Piranha Plants, as contact with one causes them to lose a point. Piranha Plants, pink flowers, and gold flowers all start out growing from the same type of bud. Flowers disappear five seconds after sprouting, while Piranha Plants disappear only three seconds after sprouting. Characters move slower in the tall grass section, where gold flowers most commonly spawn. Whoever ends with the most points is the winner.

Piranha Patch also appears in Perspective Mode, in which the camera is zoomed in on the character, making it harder to tell if there are any flower buds nearby.
