The Piranha Bean is an enemy that appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It is only fought as Luigi at the far east side of the Beanbean Kingdom. Luigi must fight this being alone to get the Bean Fruit that it has swallowed. After it has been defeated, the Piranha Plant not only coughs up the Bean Fruit, but Prince Peasley as well.

Appearance

The Piranha Bean resembles Petey Piranha, but it is smaller, has white lips, and lacks petals on their head.

Battle

In battle, the Piranha Bean mainly attacks by spitting a small bean-like object at Luigi. The bean object turns out to be none other than Prince Peasley who somehow turned small. Like most Piranha Plants in this game, the Piranha Bean can also spit fireballs at Luigi which, sometimes, can be tough to avoid. In the remake, multiple Piranha Beans appear in the new Minion Quest side mode.

Strategy

Being a red Piranha Plant, the Piranha Bean is very weak to the Thunderhand technique so Luigi needs to stick with that for the entire battle. Because Mario is not in the battle, Luigi cannot use any Bros. Attacks.

Trivia

  • Piranha Bean has a battle script for both Bros., despite being only be fought by Luigi.
  • Unlike most bosses, Piranha Bean's battle music is that of a normal fight with an enemy, though this may be due to the fact that it only fights Luigi.
