Pipe Cannons are a type of Warp Pipe which appear in the Mario franchise, especially the New Super Mario Bros. series. They first appear in Super Mario World.

Fire Mario shooting out of a Pipe Cannon in Super Mario World
Whenever a character enters a Pipe Cannon, it shoots them out a distance to another area. Throughout their appearances, Pipe Cannons generally have the same appearance as a Warp Pipe, and are told apart from their difference in functionality. In Super Mario World, a Pipe Cannon has a different appearance in that it is larger, thicker, and always slanted.
Super Mario 3D World features a transparent type of Pipe Cannon known as a Clear Pipe Cannon, which is attached to the end of certain Clear Pipes. Additionally, when a character enters a Cloud Cannon, a small Pipe Cannon to appear on top of the Cloud Cannon and blasts the character up to a Coin Heaven.
In Super Mario series[]
Super Mario World[]
Pipe Cannons cannot be entered, and Mario or Luigi are instead shot out of one after they exit a certain area. Two small pipes act as a supporting structure for a Pipe Cannon.
New Super Mario Bros.[]
Mario or Luigi can now enter a Pipe Cannon to be blast off to a different area, usually one that is otherwise inaccessible, or to collect coins or sometimes even a Star Coin that cannot be reached otherwise. Some Pipe Cannons, such as in World 6, adjust which direction they are facing before launching Mario or Luigi.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]
Pipe Cannons act the same as in New Super Mario Bros.. The minigame 1-up Blast features cannons similar to a Pipe Cannon, except their aim can be adjusted, and the purpose is for a character to shoot out at the balloons, each worth the number of 1-Ups shown on them, as they make their way out.

Pipe Cannons make yet another reappearance. Aside from appearing in levels, Pipe Cannons also appear on the overworld, one in each world, and the player's character can use them to more quickly travel to any previously visited worlds.
