Pillar

Pillars are large, wide indestructible columns featured in Super Mario World.

In Super Mario World/Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2[]

Pillars only appear in three levels, each taking place in either a castle or a fortress: #1 Iggy's Castle, the Forest Fortress, and the Front Door of Bowser's Castle. A Pillar is not seen at first, as it hides within either the floors, ceilings, or walls. As Mario or Luigi approaches a Pillar, it sticks out slightly before quickly extending down. After this, the Pillar retracts into the surface it is in before repeating the cycle. If Mario or Luigi touch a Pillar, he takes damage.
