Pile Driver Micro-Goomba is a variant of Micro Goomba that hides within a Brick Block. It first appears in Super Mario Bros. 3, and has almost never appeared since, although in the New Super Mario Bros. series, Pile Driver Micro-Goombas were replaced with Blockhoppers.

Behavior[]

At first, a Pile Driver Micro-Goomba appears as a regular Brick Block, but when Mario or Luigi approaches the Pile Driver Micro-Goomba, it reveals itself by sticking its feet out from beneath the Brick Block. The Pile Driver Micro-Goomba then performing a big jump, attempting to land on Mario or Luigi.

In Super Mario Bros. 3[]

Pile Driver Micro-Goombas are first encountered in World 2-1, the first level of Desert Land. A visual difference with the Brick Block worn by a Pile Driver Micro-Goomba is that it does not shine, except in the Super Mario All-Stars remake, in which the difference is that the Brick Block is smaller and somewhat lighter. A Pile Driver Micro-Goomba can be defeated either by Ground Pounding it, throwing a Koopa Shell at it, or from spinning a raccoon tail granted by either the Raccoon Leaf or the Tanooki Suit. Defeating a Pile Driver Micro-Goomba earns the player 100 points.

In other media[]

While Pile Driver Micro-Goombas do not appear in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, there is a scene in the episode "A Toadally Magical Adventure" in which Toad's pipe creatures bring some blocks to life, giving them a pair of green feet.
