Pikmin are a small plant-based species from the franchise of the same name. They have appeared in Mario-related media, including crossovers such as the Super Smash Bros. series. The first instance of this is in Luigi's Mansion, although here the Pikmin only appear in a preview trailer for the game.

In Super Smash Bros. series[]

Super Smash Bros. Melee[]

A group of Red, Blue, and Yellow Pikmin make a cameo appearance as a trophy.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

BrawlOlimar

Pikmin assist Captain Olimar during battle. They are not playable, although Olimar uses them in a majority of his moves. Olimar can pluck Pikmin from the ground to assist him. Aside from Red, Blue, and Yellow Pikmin, Olimar is also assisted by Purple and White Pikmin, both of which first appear in Pikmin 2. Olimar can have up to six Pikmin with him at a time.

In a cutscene of Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary, several Pikmin are seen pecking on R.O.B., who then shakes off the Pikmin, killing them.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[]

Olimar, and now also Alph, are assisted by Pikmin once more. Aside from the five types which return from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, there is also the Winged Pikmin, originally introduced in Pikmin 3. Unlike in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, only up to three Pikmin can be out at a time.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

Pikmin retain the same role from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.

In Mario franchise[]

Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour[]

Pikmin make a cameo appearance in which Red, Blue, and Yellow ones fly out of the flowers if a golf ball landed there.

Super Mario Maker[]

Pikmin is one of several costumes that Mario can take on in the Super Mario Bros. style. This costume in particular shows a Red Pikmin, a Blue Pikmin, and a Yellow Pikmin, the only three types in the first Pikmin game.

In Donkey Konga series[]

Donkey Konga 2[]

Pikmin make a cameo appearance in the form of three badges depicting a Red Pikmin, a Blue Pikmin, and a Yellow Pikmin respectively. Each badge depicts that Pikmin's artwork from Pikmin 2.

Donkey Konga 3 JP[]

The same badges make a reappearance from Donkey Konga 2.

In WarioWare series[]

WarioWare: Smooth Moves[]

WWSM Pikmin 2

The Pikmin microgame in WarioWare: Smooth Moves

Pikmin appear in the microgame Pikmin 2, although the object is to roll Empress Bulblax over all of the Pikmin to squish them within the time limit. In Level 1, Empress Bulblax has to only roll over sixteen Pikmin. In Level 2, there is only one large Pikmin having to be rolled over. In Level 3, there are sixteen Pikmin, although there are eight on each side of Empress Bulblax.

WarioWare: D.I.Y.[]

In the microgame Pikmin, exclusive to international versions of the game, the object is for Captain Olimar to throw a Red Pikmin onto a rock with nectar. If time runs out or if the Pikmin is accidentally thrown into the water, the game ends in a loss.

WarioWare Gold[]

Pikmin return in the Pikmin 2 microgame, which has the same objective, although the Pikmin quantities differ in Level 1 and 2, instead featuring six Pikmin and twelve Pikmin, respectively.

WarioWare: Get It Together![]

Pikmin appear in a different Pikmin 2 microgame, although they do not have any effect on gameplay.

In other media[]

A glass statue of a Pikmin appears in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
