Picnic Road is a location in Paper Mario: The Origami King.

Layout[]

The 1st Not-Bottomless Hole is located directly on the left as soon as Mario enters the level. The Not-Bottomless Hole surrounds the 1st Toad who is trapped in a bush. Once Mario hammers the bush, he must then hammer the Toad in order to unfold it. Above the 1st Not-Bottomless Hole is a small rock that when smashed yields a bag of confetti. The main purpose of this is probably to help fill in the large Not-Bottomless Hole. Following along the path, there is the 2nd Not-Bottomless Hole.

As Mario enters into the clearing, Olivia comes out and comments on how nice it is. Passing up the ramp, there is a bush that contains a bag of confetti, along with a hole that when hammered yields one coin. To the right of the bush is another hole, that also gives one coin, however this one can be hit 10 times, and the first nine all give one coin, while the last gives a 10-coin. In front of the holes is the 3rd Not-Bottomless Hole, which reveals another hole when filled in. When the hole is hit, a wrapped up Toad pops out. If it is hit again, the 2nd Toad pops back in. However, while it is out Mario can pull on the Toad to rescue it.

In front of the 3rd Not-Bottomless Hole is a fence line. The 2nd fence closest to the bush is weak, and can be hit over. This destroys the Origami Shy Guy in the process, which drops a 10-coin. It also allows access to the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Toads. The 6th Toad is being folded by another Origami Shy Guy and must be fought. The Toad hops away back to Toad Town.

Behind the tree is a tunnel that leads to the 1st Question Block which contains a Fire Flower. After falling down from the ledge, there is 7th Toad turning into a butterfly. To the right of the Toad is the 4th Not-Bottomless Hole. Following the raised walkway, there is the 8th Toad in a hole. The hole must be hit 3 times for the Toad to slide out. Further along is the 5th Not-Bottomless Hole, and an Origami Goomba who hides in a bush. Behind the bush is the 9th Toad turned into a flower, encircled by flowers. Returning backwards to the path is an Origami Goomba. Closer to the beginning of the path is the 6th Not-Bottomless Hole. Farther along is the 7th Not-Bottomless Hole, with the 2nd Question Block above it. Which contains a 100-Coin.

Farther up the path, is a Koopa Troopa standing next to a sign. Another Koopa Troopa comes running up and creating an alarm for a bad situation. The sign reads, "Meet the Earth Vellumental... Vellumental Temple Donate, Worship, and donate again!->->." To the right of the sign is a small rock that contains a bag of confetti. If you hit the sign, you will find the 10th Toad. Following the path to the right, are two Origami Goombas. To the right of the Origami Goombas is the 8th Not-Bottomless Hole. There is a set of stairs that climbs down from the path. On the stairs, in a corner is the 9th Not-Bottomless Hole. At the bottom of the stairs are a row of shops, the 1st one has a sign that says, "Fun, Funky, and Functional <><><>Accessory Shop<><><>." The first one also has an umbrella, that when hit allows access to the 11th Toad, which resides in a crevice in the stairs. Mario must jump on top of the umbrella to reach the Toad. The umbrella also drops 5 100-Coins and 5 coins. In between the two shops is a save block. The second shops has a sign that reads, " Buy Some Luck! Fortunes for Sale Just 100 coins!" On top of the shop is the 12th Toad who sells Accessories. Behind the second shop is a hidden cave with 3 100-Coins

The two Koopa Troopas previously mentioned are past the two shops, and ask Mario to find the five Shell Stones and to place them in the Shell Stone receptacles. There is a red Shy Guy pulling at one of the Shell Stones. To the right is a overhanging platform, that can be access by crates in front of it. At the end of the platform is a rock in the wall that can be broken. When broken it releases a Magic Circle, which can be used to pound a statue of the Earth Vellumental, that reveals the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd Toads.

In front of all of the shops and clearing, is a set of stairs that contains the 10th Not-Bottomless Hole. The stair case leads to a lower platform with three statues of the Earth Vellumental indented in the wall. The one farthest on the left is cracked, and can be destroyed with Mario's hammer. Behind the statues is a passage way. To the left is a bag of confetti, while to the right is a Scaredy Rat with the 23rd Toad.

Back at the top of the stairs, that leads down towards the temple, is a pond with an origami swan swimming in it. On the left side of the pond is a block. If you climb onto the block and hammer to the left, then you will find the 3rd , 4th, and 5th question blocks, each of which contain a coin. If you hammer to the left of the 5th question block, you can hammer the swan, to reveal the 24th Toad. To the upper right of the pond is the 11th Not-Bottomless Hole.

Below the pond is a sign. If you continue to the left, following the hedge that is next to the sign, then you will find the 25th Toad. Following the path forwards, you will find the 12th Not-Bottomless Hole in the path, and the 13th Not-Bottomless Hole to its right. To the left of the 12th Not-Bottomless Hole is the 26th Toad turned into a yellow butterfly. Behind the 26th Toad is the 1st Sensor Lab, which is currently blocked by the Red Streamer. To the left of the stairs to the Sensor Lab is a hole in the ground, which when hammered releases confetti. The mailbox on the right of the staircase contains the 27th, 28th, and 29th Toads, along with an actual letter that reads, "Thank you so much. The invention helped me truly find myself. -Toad"

If you hammer the Red Streamer that is blocking the Sensor Lab, then a Origami Goomba will pop out. To the right of the mailbox is a Rocky Wrench who is hidding in his manhole, and can be talked to by hammering the manhole. (When you are not on top of it). To the right of the manhole is an Origami Goomba, and a tree, which contains the 30th Toad. To the right of the tree is a bush with a bag of confetti in it. Following the path, there is the 13th Not-Bottomless Hole. When you fill in the Not-Bottomless Hole, then a red butterfly will fly down, and who is really the 31st Toad. Following the path, there is a red origami dog, that is the 32nd Toad. This Toad is the owner of the Battle Lab in Toad Town.

To the right of the path is an arrow made out of 8 coins. To the right of the arrow is a ledge with the 6th Question Block that contains a 100-Coin. A little to the bottom left of the 6th Question Block is a hole in the wall. If you hammer the below the fall then the 33rd, 34th, 35th, and the 36th Toads will come out. You must hammer twice for the 33rd Toad, once each for the 34th, and 35th Toads, and a couple more times for the 36th Toad. The hole will disappear after the 36th Toad comes out. Following the ledge you will find the 14th Not-Bottomless Hole, And a rock with a large bag of confetti. Underneath the rock is a hole that contains an origami crab which is also the 37th Toad. In front of the rock is the 15th Not-Bottomless Hole and a tree that contains the 38th Toad.

If you hop of the ledge, but stay behind the hedge, you will find a small clearing with 5 holes. There are two holes in the bottom left corner, and one in every other corner. In one of the holes is an origami groundhog. You can hammer each hole corner the groundhog, and each hole releases one coin. If you fail to corner the groundhog into the bottom left corner, then it will open up all of the holes again. Each hole only ever releases one coin, for the 1st time you hit it. When you finally hit the groundhog, you find the 39th Toad, who gives you 1000 coins for putting in the time to save him. You exit on the other side of the secret area.

To the left of the exit is the 15th and last Not-Bottomless Hole. When you fill in the hole, you uncover a hole in the ground that when hammered reveals a origami white butterfly, who is also the 40th Toad. To the left of the 40th Toad is a patch of flowers, which contains an origami fungi that when hammered reveals the 41st Toad.

Above the 40th Toad is a miniature golf course with two sand traps. The bottom one contains an Origami Goomba, while the upper one contains the 42nd Toad. In the middle of the golf course's green, is a pole that Mario can jump on to bring down the flag. When the flag is hammered, it reveals the 43rd Toad. If left alone, the 43rd Toad will rise back up to the top of the flag pole, however it can still be brought down by jumping onto the flag pole. To the left of the flag pole is an indentation in the green. When hammered, it upheaves a series of blocks meant to resemble the end of each level in the original Super Mario Bros game. Mario can use these blocks to jump on top of the flag pole. Doing so releases the 44th, 45th, 46th, 47th, 48th, 49th, and 50th Toads, who were stuck inside of the flag cap. To the left of the green is an Origami Goomba.

If you follow the path all the way to the exit, then you will enter Overlook Mountain.

Once you get the four Shell Stones from Overlook Mountain, then you can return to the Earth Vellumental Temple to open the door. Once all four Shell Stones are placed in, the door opens, and Mario can enter the temple.

Many of the Toads rescued in the Earth Vellumental Temple open shops outside the temple door. To the left is the Picnic Road shop. On the far right of the shop shelfs is a mushroom which is also the 51st Toad. However, the Toad will not let you buy it, and Mario must hammer it to unfold the mushroom back into a Toad. The 4th shelf has the No.22 Collectible Treasure Shellvation is Near for a price of 2,400 coins. After buying the No.22 Collectible Treasure, another one appears. This one, which sells for 3,800 coins is the No.23 Collectible Treasure Vellumental Idol. A Fire Flower fills in the shelf once both Collectible Treasures are bought.

To the left of the door is a Toad selling popcorn for 100 coins. The 52nd, 53rd, 54th, and 55th Toads pop out of the popcorn machine once Mario buys the popcorn.

Around the corner are two stands. Behind the right stand is a small cave with the 56th Toad inside.

Around the corner is a Toad that sells fortunes for 100 coins. Each fortune does something different.

For example there is one that reads, "Lucky You! Someone will pay you a compliment!" Which results in Mario getting a compliment and some confetti.

Another one reads, "Great Fortune Your path is paved with wealth!" This results in 14 100 coins appearing on the stairwell.

Another one reads, "It's Nothing You just wasted time reading this."

Another one reads, "Great Fortune You are a superstar!" and results with Mario getting a Star.

Another one reads, "Lucky You! You'll get a small fortune!" with this one, 14 10-coins line the staircase.

Another one reads, " Lucky You! You'll soon be feeling better!" This one results in Mario regaining 20 HP.

Another one reads, "Lucky You! You might find something useful..." and results in a Fire Flower showing up.

Another one reads, "An Actual Curse You're going to get less rich really quick." This one results in Mario losing a 10-coin every couple of seconds for a total of 5 10-coins.

Another curse reads, "An Actual Curse Uh-oh! Look out below!" This one results in Mario getting hit by an Origami Thwomp and losing 20 HP.

Another curse reads, "An Actual Curse Your path is paved with pain!" With this one, Mario loses 1 HP a total of 5 times.

Another nothing one reads, "It's Nothing Nothing will happen. Congrats?"

Another nothing one reads, "A Boring Blessing Nothing bad will happen!"

After Mario defeats the Colored Pencils in Overlook Tower, the Sensor Lab is accessible. To the left of the top of the stairs to the Sensor Lab there is a rusty brown pipe that is covered by King Olly tape. To the right, is a down slope to a secret area behind a bush. Here, there is a chest that contains the No.24 Collectible Treasure Sensor Lab. This is the last Collectible Treasure in this level. In front of the Sensor Lab is a sign that reads, "Sensor Lab Picnic Road Headquarters." The 56th Toad is outside the Sensor Lab on the back of this sign.

Inside the Sensor Lab, there is the Sensor Lab Toad which is also the 57th and last Toad, and who is folded on top of a machine in the upper left corner. Once freed, the Toad gives Mario the Toad Radar and makes him test it. You must at least try the practice in order to get the Toad Radar, but you can take it at any time.
