Pest Aside is a single-player minigame found in Mario Party Advance.
Layout[]
The player's character stands in the center of an area with four potted sunflowers, each placed in one of the four cardinal directions next to the character. The background is nearly symmetrical both vertically and horizontally. Not including the center area, there are patches of grass filled with four-petaled flowers, with the petals being colored either red, orange, or yellow, depending on how close they are to the center. The grassy areas with the flowers are blocked off by white, wooden gates in front of them. Each of the four cardinal directions have an open, straightforward path leading out of the area.
Opening[]
There is one plant that demands water, while another demands bug spray, and the player's character fulfills their needs accordingly.
Gameplay[]
The player's character has to try and keep the four sunflowers healthy by either quickly watering or bug-spraying them, depending on what a sunflower indicates in the speech bubble next to it. The player needs to quickly satisfy the sunflower's needs, because if they do not, the bubble becomes spiky, increasing its urgency to either be watered or have pesticides removed from it. If the player's character either ignores the sunflower or accidentally gives it the wrong thing, the plant loses health. If a sunflower loses health twice, the player loses at the minigame.
In Shroom City mode, the player's character has to earn at least 500 points within 30 seconds to win. In Mini-Game Attack, at least 1,000 points have to be earned within 60 seconds to win.
