Not to be confused with Parabuzzy.

Para-Beetles, spelled Parabeetles in European regions, are flying Buzzy Beetles which first appear in Super Mario Bros. 3. They fly across the skies, and Mario or another playable character can stand on it as a platform. Para-Beetles are invulnerable to most attacks, although defeating them is not usually necessary as Para-Beetles are usually required for traveling across the open skies. When stepped on, a Para-Beetle gradually flies upward into the air.

Physical description[]

Para-Beetles resemble Parabuzzies from the Paper Mario series except Para-Beetles are a little smaller and wear a red shell instead of a blue one. In some games, a Para-Beetle tweets like a bird upon being stepped on.

In the Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Bros. 3[]

Para-Beetles NES

Para-Beetles are first seen in Super Mario Bros. 3. They only appear in the Sky Land level World 5-6. In the game the fly through the skies of the level, jumping on a stationary Para-Beetle will slightly lower it, though it will gradually rise upwards again. The mobile Para-Beetles soar quickly through the skies, forcing the plumbers to jump from Para-Beetle to Para-Beetle. Para-Beetles cannot be defeated with either stomps or fireballs but they can be killed with the use of the Super Leaf, the Hammer Suit, or the Starman.

Also there was a Green Para-Beetle that appeared via Game Genie Codes, the Green Para-Beetles are faster than their Red siblings.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]

Para-Beetle Skies

After an incredibly long absence, Para-Beetles return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. There is also a huge new sub-species known as the Heavy Parabeetle. They only appear in World 7-6. If you jump on eight Para-Beetles consecutively without touching the ground, a 1-Up Mushroom will fall from the sky, which can be collected for an extra life. If you step on a regular Para-Beetle, it will start to rise to the top of the screen, however if you jump on a Heavy Parabeetle, it will start to descend slowly due to it's weight. In this game, Para-Beetles are completely invincible and cannot be defeated in any way.

New Super Mario Bros. U/New Super Luigi U/New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]

Para-Beetle Sky Parade

The Mario Crew near some more Para-Beetles.

Para-Beetles and Heavy Parabeetles return in New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. They are found in the levels Flight of the Para-Beetles and Para-Beetle Parade in Soda Jungle. They behave identically to how they did in their previous appearance and just as before are completely invincible. The use of the Para-Beetles and Heavy Parabeetles is required for progressing through these levels. Once again, landing on 8 Para-Beetles without touching the ground will net you a 1-Up Mushroom to collect.

In the Mario & Luigi series[]

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[]

Para-Beetles appear again in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. In this game, they appear as enemies and recruitable allies during Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser. They are classed as flying troops and are effective against melee-based enemies. Deploying Para-Beetles is a smart strategy when brawling against teams with several melee-based foes.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[]

Para-Beetle G-Force Agent Data

A Para-Beetle

Para-Beetles return in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey as enemies and recruitable allies in the Bowser Jr.'s Journey side of the game. They are once again classed as flying troops and have the same attacks and movesets as before. Just as before they are strong against melee troops and weak against ranged troops, so as a result, a smart strategy is deploying them against many melee troops.
