WarioWare

Nose Dive is a recurring microgame in the WarioWare series. It first appears in WarioWare: Twisted! as the boss microgame of Kat and Ana's stage, then in WarioWare Gold as the boss microgame of Dribble and Spitz's stage.

Gameplay[]

The player takes control of Handroid V, a robot whose attacks consist of firing two-finger hands as it moves left and right automatically. With his two-finger hands, Handroid V has to destroy the noses along the way until reaching the boss, which is a big face with two eyes and a nose. The nose attacks by launching wind out from its nostrils. To defeat it, Handroid V has to block its two nostrils using the hands. When it is plugged, the nose explodes, and the face reveals itself as a bigger nose that attacks with mini-noses. Handroid V eats a fruit to upgrade his form to now make use of both of his hands. This giant nose can be defeated after several shots, upon which the player wins the microgame. If Handroid V takes one hit, he is defeated.

In WarioWare Gold, the microgame received several changes. Handroid V can now be moved by using the left and right buttons. He also has two hit points instead of one, meaning that the player instead loses if Handroid V is hit twice. An active hitbox was added onto Handroid V's hand, so he can defeat the noses by touching them without firing. A golden eye drop power-up item was added, and if by chance it is obtained, all noses on-screen are destroyed from Handroid V's heat vision. The second phase of the original boss fight was also removed, and the game skips right to the third phase. The game also has a mission named Antisneeze, in which the player has to clear Level 2 without pressing A Button.

Difficulty levels[]

WarioWare: Twisted![]

  • Level 1: There are a small number of mini-noses. The wind coming out of the mini-boss is weak and it takes only a few shots to defeat the big nose.
  • Level 2: More mini-noses are added, the wind coming out of the mini-boss is stronger and it takes more shots to defeat the big nose.
  • Level 3: Even more mini-noses are added, the wind coming out of the mini-boss is even stronger, and lots of hits are required to defeat the big nose.

WarioWare Gold[]

  • Level 1: There are a small amount of mini-noses, and the player fights a giant human nose (who appears as a mini-nose at first, but uses a mushroom to become a bigger nose) that doesn't do anything unusual. It takes 3 hits to defeat the giant nose.
  • Level 2: There are more mini-noses, and the player fights a giant boar nose (that gets in the way of the human nose when the player goes to fight the human nose) that can charge at the player. It takes 5 hits to defeat the boar nose.
  • Level 3: There are a lot of mini-noses and a few snot drops, and the player fights a giant elephant trunk nose (that gets in the way of the boar nose when the player goes to fight the boar nose) that can fire a spread-shot of snot drops. It takes 5 hits to defeat the elephant trunk nose.

Game data[]

  • In-game description:
    • WarioWare: Twisted!: Use your hand missiles to defeat the nose-vaders!
    • WarioWare Gold: An extremely sniffly, giant nose-like entity is threatening intergalactic peace yet again! Humanity's fate lies in the cold, lifeless grip of Handroid V! Yikes! Is the news always this scary? I wonder if usin' hand missiles and eye drops would defeat this thing. Chances are his nostrils are his weak point.

Trivia[]

  • The minigame name is a pun on nosedive, a type of diving technique.
  • The fruits that Handroid V eats to power-up (bananas in the first level, cherries in the second level, and a peach in the third level; the reverse in WarioWare Gold) are the same weapons that would later be used in the WarioWare: Smooth Moves boss microgame Boot Camp, also used in the same order across all three difficulty levels as in the WarioWare: Twisted! iteration. Boot Camp likewise involves an objective of having to defeat a giant nose.
