The Nintendo DSi Shop was an online storefront for the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems launched in Japan in 2008 and Worldwide in 2009 but later was shut down on March 31, 2017. It was a way for users to buy and download exclusive games made for the system similar to the Wii Shop Channel. Later in 2011, the Nintendo eShop was launched as the successor to the DSi Shop.
Description[]
The Nintendo DSi Shop allowed users to download applications and games exclusive to the console that would usually never be on a full game card. Similar to the Wii's WiiWare applications on the Wii Shop Channel, these games were known as DSiWare.
DSiWare[]
DSiWare are a series of downloadable applications for the DSi and DSi XL that can be downloaded from the DSi Shop and is the direct equivalent to the Wii's WiiWare. These titles were smaller games or useful applications that were either free or at a very cheap price and could be bought with DSi Points. DSi Points was the way users could buy things in the store. Users could get DSi Points by either using real money or using gift cards. Most things on the Shop were developed by Nintendo or other companies and were later Reissued on the Nintendo 3DS on the Nintendo eShop. As of March 31, 2017, with the closure of the DSi Shop, titles are no longer able to be downloaded but remained available on the eShop until it's closure on March 27, 2023.
