Ness is a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. series. He is from the Mother series who serve as the main protagonist of the game Earthbound. Ness is also one of the "Original 12."

Biography[]

Ness is a young boy from Onett who was born with very powerful psychic abilities. Ness was soon tasked to take down Giygas before he takes over the world. Ness soon set out on his journey and eventually recruited Paula, Jeff, and Poo and they went back in time to stop Giygas.

As stated above, Ness is able to use PSI techniques in battle. He is capable of using offensive, defensive, and healing spells to help his friends. Ness' signature attack is PSI Rockin' which is a very powerful multi-hit attack that he can learn early in his adventure. Ness also has more HP and PP than the others (which definitely helps after he defeats his nightmare toward the end of his adventure). However, Ness is often the slowest member of the party compared to the much quicker Paula and Poo.

Ness's appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series have considerably boosted his public image. His appearance in the very first Super Smash Bros. took fans by surprise, but his inclusion was massively applauded; thus, he's been in every Smash installment since. Through the Super Smash Bros. series, Ness became more or less a mainstream character in gaming culture rather than remaining a curious cult character of Nintendo's '90s days who would be known only to the highly devoted Nintendo fandom.

Super Smash Bros.[]

Ness has been featured as a playable character throughout the entire Super Smash Bros. series. He appears as the sole representative of both the game and the series in Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee. He reappeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate alongside fellow EarthBound representative Lucas, who hails from Mother 3.

Trivia[]

  • In the Super Smash Bros. series, Ness' Final Smash is PK Starstorm. However, in the games, Ness is not capable of using this Final Smash. Only his teammate Poo can.
    • However, in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Poo (along with Paula) now accomplies Ness when using PK Starstorm making it's use more understandable.
